When Haydee II appeared on Steam in late December 2020 it felt at once familiar and strangely anachronistic. Its developer, the tiny studio Haydee Interactive, had already built a cult following with the first Haydee (2016), a brutally difficult, tongue-in-cheek mixture of platforming and shooter mechanics starring an overtly sexualized android heroine. The sequel keeps the same latex-clad protagonist but re-imagines the surrounding game in the mold of classic survival-horror adventures from the 1990s and early 2000s. The result is a third-person puzzle shooter that unabashedly borrows the fixed-camera angles, inventory juggling, key-hunting and save-point tension of early Resident Evil while layering it with modern lighting, physics and mod support.
